ROCKPORT — The Rockport Democratic Town Committee will host a forum this weekend featuring two candidates hoping to succeed Seth Moulton in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Speaking at the forum will be candidates Dr. Mariah Lancaster, a Salem veterinarian and former State Department official, and former state Rep. Jamie Belsito of Topsfield. Both will be allotted 20 minutes each to address those gathered and answer questions about their candidacy.

The forum is part of the Rockport Democratic Town Committee’s monthly meeting this Saturday, May 16. The meeting starts at 10 a. m. in the Brenner Room at Rockport Public Library, 17 School St.

Moulton, D-Salem, is challenging the U.S. Sen. Edward Markey, D-Malden, opening up the race for Massachusetts’s 6th Congressional District.

Rockport Democratic Town Committee Chair David Narkewicz said it is important for the candidates hoping to succeed Moulton to meet with voters and Democratic activists in Rockport.

“The November mid-term elections will be pivotal for America as Democrats are poised to retake the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives,” Narkewicz said. “Voters need to elect the candidate best prepared to represent the 6th District and help reverse the unpopular and failed policies of the Trump Administration.”

In March and April, former Biden administration official Dan Koh, Lynnfield attorney and businessman John Beccia, and Middleton software engineer and activist Bethany Andres-Beck joined Rockport Democrats to discuss their respective campaigns for the 6th Congressional District Democratic primary scheduled for Sept. 1.

Rick Jakious, Moulton’s former chief of staff, also spoke to the group but has since bowed out of the race.
